:12. I the Preacher <6953 qoheleth > was king <4428 melek > over <5921 <al > Israel <3478 Yisra>el > in Jerusalem <3389 Y@ruwshalaim >.

:16 I communed <1696 dabar > with mine own heart <3820 leb >, saying <0559 >amar >, Lo <2009 hinneh >, I am come to great <1431 gadal > estate, and have gotten <3254 yacaph > more wisdom <2451 chokmah > than <5921 <al > all <3605 kol > [they] that have been <1961 hayah > before <6440 paniym > me in Jerusalem <3389 Y@ruwshalaim >:yea, my heart <3820 leb > had great <7235 rabah > experience <7200 ra>ah > of wisdom <2451 chokmah > and knowledge <1847 da<ath >.

:Ecclesiastes 2

:2 I said <0559 >amar > of laughter <7814 s@chowq >, [It is] mad <1984 halal >:and of mirth <8057 simchah >, What <4100 mah > doeth <6213 <asah > it?

:10 And whatsoever mine eyes <5869 <ayin > desired <7592 sha>al > I kept <0680 >atsal > not from them, I withheld <4513 mana< > not my heart <3820 leb > from any <3605 kol > joy <8057 simchah >; for my heart <3820 leb > rejoiced <8055 samach > in all <3605 kol > my labour <5999 <amal >:and this <2088 zeh > was my portion <2506 cheleq > of all <3605 kol > my labour <5999 <amal >.

And I turned <6437 panah > myself to behold <7200 ra>ah > wisdom <2451 chokmah >, and madness <1947 howlelah >, and folly <5531 cikluwth >:for what <4100 mah > [can] the man <0120 >adam > [do] that cometh <0935 bow> > after <0310 >achar > the king <4428 melek >? [even <0853 >eth >] that which <0834 >aher > hath been already <3528 k@bar > done <6466 pa<al >.

:13 Then I saw <7200 ra>ah > that wisdom <2451 chokmah > excelleth <3504 yithrown > folly <5531 cikluwth >, as far as light <0216 >owr > excelleth <3504 yithrown > darkness <2822 choshek >.

:14 The wise <2450 chakam > man's eyes <5869 <ayin > [are] in his head <7218 ro>sh >; but the fool <3684 k@ciyl > walketh <1980 halak > in darkness <2822 choshek >:and I myself <0589 >aniy > perceived <3045 yada< > also <1571 gam > that one <0259 >echad > event <4745 miqreh > happeneth <7136 qarah > to them all <3605 kol >.

:15 Then said <0559 >amar > I in my heart <3820 leb >, As it happeneth <4745 miqreh > to the fool <3684 k@ciyl >, so it happeneth <7136 qarah > even <1571 gam > to me; and why <4100 mah > was I then <0227 >az > more <3148 yowther > wise <2449 chakam >? Then I said <1696 dabar > in my heart <3820 leb >, that this <2088 zeh > also <1571 gam > [is] vanity <1892 hebel >.

:16 For [there is] no <0369 >ayin > remembrance <2146 zikrown > of the wise <2450 chakam > more <5973 <im > than <5973 <im > of the fool <3684 k@ciyl > for ever <5769 <owlam >; seeing that which now <3528 k@bar > [is] in the days <3117 yowm > to come <0935 bow> > shall all <3605 kol > be forgotten <7911 shakach >. Therefore I hated <8130 sane> > life <2416 chay >; because <3588 kiy > the work <4639 ma<aseh > that is wrought <6213 <asah > under <8478 tachath > the sun <8121 shemesh > [is] grievous <7451 ra< > unto me:for all <3605 kol > [is] vanity <1892 hebel > and vexation <7469 r@<uwth > of spirit <7307 ruwach >.

:18 Yea, I hated <8130 sane> > all <3605 kol > my labour <5999 <amal > which I had taken <6001 <amel > under <8478 tachath > the sun <8121 shemesh >:because I should leave <3241 Yaniym > it unto the man <0120 >adam > that shall be after <0310 >achar > me.

:19 And who <4310 miy > knoweth <3045 yada< > whether he shall be a wise <2450 chakam > [man] or <0176 >ow > a fool <5530 cakal >? yet shall he have rule <7980 shalat > over all <3605 kol > my labour <5999 <amal > wherein I have laboured <5998 <amal >, and wherein I have shewed myself wise <2449 chakam > under <8478 tachath > the sun <8121 shemesh >. This <2088 zeh > [is] also <1571 gam > vanity <1892 hebel >.

:20 Therefore I went <5437 cabab > about <5437 cabab > to cause my heart <3820 leb > to despair <2976 ya>ash > of all <3605 kol > the labour <5999 <amal > which I took under <8478 tachath > the sun <8121 shemesh >.

:21 For there is a man <0120 >adam > whose labour <5999 <amal > [is] in wisdom <2451 chokmah >, and in knowledge <1847 da<ath >, and in equity <3788 kishrown >; yet to a man <0120 >adam > that hath not laboured <5998 <amal > therein shall he leave <5414 nathan > it [for] his portion <2506 cheleq >. This <2088 zeh > also <1571 gam > [is] vanity <1892 hebel > and a great <7227 rab > evil <7451 ra< >.

:22 For what <4100 mah > hath <1933 hava> > man <0120 >adam > of all <3605 kol > his labour <5999 <amal >, and of the vexation <7475 ra<yown > of his heart <3820 leb >, wherein he hath laboured <6001 <amel > under <8478 tachath > the sun <8121 shemesh >?

:23 For all <3605 kol > his days <3117 yowm > [are] sorrows <4341 mak>ob >, and his travail <6045 <inyan > grief <3708 ka<ac >; yea <1571 gam >, his heart <3820 leb > taketh not rest in the night <3915 layil >. This is also <1571 gam > vanity <1892 hebel >.

:24 [There is] nothing <0369 >ayin > better <2896 towb > for a man <0120 >adam >, [than] that he should eat <0398 >akal > and drink <8354 shathah >, and [that] he should make his soul <5315 nephesh > enjoy <7200 ra>ah > good <2896 towb > in his labour <5999 <amal >. This <2088 zeh > also <1571 gam > I saw <7200 ra>ah >, that it [was] from the hand <3027 yad > of God <0430 >elohiym >.

:25 For who <4310 miy > can eat <0398 >akal >, or who <4310 miy > else can hasten <2363 chuwsh > [hereunto], more <2351 chuwts > than I?

:26 For [God] giveth <5414 nathan > to a man <0120 >adam > that [is] good <2896 towb > in his sight <6440 paniym > wisdom <2451 chokmah >, and knowledge <1847 da<ath >, and joy <8057 simchah >:but to the sinner <2398 chata> > he giveth <5414 nathan > travail <6045 <inyan >, to gather <0622 >acaph > and to heap <3664 kanac > up, that he may give <5414 nathan > to [him that is] good <2896 towb > before <6440 paniym > God <0430 >elohiym >. :Ecclesiastes 3

:6 A time <6256 <eth > to get <1245 baqash >, and a time <6256 <eth > to lose <6>; a time <6256 <eth > to keep <8104 shamar >, and a time <6256 <eth > to cast <7993 shalak > away;

:7 A time <6256 <eth > to rend <7167 qara< >, and a time <6256 <eth > to sew <8609 taphar >; a time <6256 <eth > to keep silence <2814 chashah >, and a time <6256 <eth > to speak <1696 dabar >;

:8 A time <6256 <eth > to love <0157 >ahab >, and a time <6256 <eth > to hate <8130 sane> >; a time <6256 <eth > of war <4421 milchamah >, and a time <6256 <eth > of peace <7965 shalowm >.

:9 What <4100 mah > profit <3504 yithrown > hath he that worketh <6213 <asah > in that wherein <0834 >aher > he laboureth <6001 <amel >?

:10 I have seen <7200 ra>ah > the travail <6045 <inyan >, which <0834 >aher > God <0430 >elohiym > hath given <5414 nathan > to the sons <1121 ben > of men <0120 >adam > to be exercised <6031 <anah > in it.

He hath made <6213 <asah > every <3605 kol > [thing] beautiful <3303 yapheh > in his time <6256 <eth >:also <1571 gam > he hath set <5414 nathan > the world <5769 <owlam > in their heart <3820 leb >, so that no <1097 b@liy > man <0120 >adam > can find <4672 matsa> > out the work <4639 ma<aseh > that God <0430 >elohiym > maketh <6213 <asah > from the beginning <7218 ro>sh > to the end <5490 cowph >.

:12 I know <3045 yada< > that [there is] no <0369 >ayin > good <2896 towb > in them, but for [a man] to rejoice <8055 samach >, and to do <6213 <asah > good <2896 towb > in his life <2416 chay >.

:13 And also <1571 gam > that every <3605 kol > man <0120 >adam > should eat <0398 >akal > and drink <8354 shathah >, and enjoy <7200 ra>ah > the good <2896 towb > of all <3605 kol > his labour <5999 <amal >, it [is] the gift <4991 mattath > of God <0430 >elohiym >.

:14 I know <3045 yada< > that, whatsoever God <0430 >elohiym > doeth <6213 <asah >, it shall be for ever <5769 <owlam >:nothing <0369 >ayin > can be put <3254 yacaph > to it, nor <0369 >ayin > any thing taken <1639 gara< > from it:and God <0430 >elohiym > doeth <6213 <asah > [it], that [men <0582 >enowsh >] should fear <3372 yare> > before <6440 paniym > him.

:15 That which hath been <1961 hayah > is now <3528 k@bar >; and that which <0834 >aher > is to be hath already <3528 k@bar > been <1961 hayah >; and God <0430 >elohiym > requireth <1245 baqash > that which is past <7291 radaph >.

:16. And moreover <5750 <owd > I saw <7200 ra>ah > under <8478 tachath > thesun <8121 shemesh > the place <4725 maqowm > of judgment <4941 mishpat >, [that] wickedness <7562 resha< > [was] there <8033 sham >; and the place <4725 maqowm > of righteousness <6664 tsedeq >, [that] iniquity <7562 resha< > [was] there <8033 sham >.

:17 I said <0559 >amar > in mine heart <3820 leb >, God <0430 >elohiym > shall judge <8199 shaphat > the righteous <6662 tsaddiyq > and the wicked <7563 rasha< >:for [there <8033 sham > is] a time <6256 <eth > there <8033 sham > for every <3605 kol > purpose <2656 chephets > and for every <3605 kol > work <4639 ma<aseh >.

:18 I said <0559 >amar > in mine heart <3820 leb > concerning <5921 <al > the estate <1700 dibrah > of the sons <1121 ben > of men <0120 >adam >, that God <0430 >elohiym > might manifest <1305 barar > them, and that they might see <7200 ra>ah > that they themselves <1992 hem > are beasts <0929 b@hemah >.

:19 For that which befalleth <4745 miqreh > the sons <1121 ben > of men <0120 >adam > befalleth <4745 miqreh > beasts <0929 b@hemah >; even one <2088 zeh > thing befalleth <4745 miqreh > them:as the one <2088 zeh > dieth <4194 maveth >, so <3651 ken > dieth <4194 maveth > the other <2088 zeh >; yea, they have all <3605 kol > one <0259 >echad > breath <7307 ruwach >; so that a man <0120 >adam > hath no <0369 >ayin > preeminence <4195 mowthar > above <4480 min > a beast <0929 b@hemah >:for all <3605 kol > [is] vanity <1892 hebel >.

:20 All <3605 kol > go <1980 halak > unto one <0259 >echad > place <4725 maqowm >; all <3605 kol > are of the dust <6083 <aphar >, and all <3605 kol > turn <7725 shuwb > to dust <6083 <aphar > again <7725 shuwb >.

:21 Who <4310 miy > knoweth <3045 yada< > the spirit <7307 ruwach > of man that goeth <5927 <alah > upward <4605 ma<al >, and the spirit <7307 ruwach > of the beast <0929 b@hemah > that goeth <3381 yarad > downward <4295 mattah > to the earth <0776 >erets >?

:22 Wherefore <4100 mah > I perceive <7200 ra>ah > that [there is] nothing <0369 >ayin > better <2896 towb >, than that a man <0120 >adam > should rejoice <8055 samach > in his own works <4639 ma<aseh >; for that [is] his portion <2506 cheleq >:for who <4310 miy > shall bring <0935 bow> > him to see <7200 ra>ah > what <4100 mah > shall be after <0310 >achar > him?

:Ecclesiastes 4

:1. So I returned <7725 shuwb >, and considered <7200 ra>ah > all <3605 kol > the oppressions <6217 <ashuwq > that are done <6466 pa<al > under <8478 tachath > the sun <8121 shemesh >:and behold <2009 hinneh > the tears <1832 dim<ah > of [such as were] oppressed <6231 <ashaq >, and they had no <0369 >ayin > comforter <5162 nacham >; and on the side <3027 yad > of their oppressors <6231 <ashaq > [there was] power <3581 koach >; but they had no <0369 >ayin > comforter.

Again, I considered <7200 ra>ah > all <3605 kol > travail <5999 <amal >, and every <3605 kol > right <3788 kishrown > work <4639 ma<aseh >, that for this <1931 huw> > a man <0376 >iysh > is envied <7068 qin>ah > of his neighbour <7453 rea< >. This <2088 zeh > [is] also <1571 gam > vanity <1892 hebel > and vexation <7469 r@<uwth > of spirit <7307 ruwach >.

:5 The fool <3684 k@ciyl > foldeth <2263 chabaq > his hands <3027 yad > together, and eateth <0398 >akal > his own flesh <1320 basar >.

:6 Better <2896 towb > [is] an handful [with] quietness <5183 Nachath >, than both the hands <2651 chophen > full <4393 m@lo> > [with] travail <5999 <amal > and vexation <7469 r@<uwth > of spirit <7307 ruwach >.

:7. Then I returned <7725 shuwb >, and I saw <7200 ra>ah > vanity <1892 hebel > under <8478 tachath > the sun <8121 shemesh >.
